If you love the river, like to be active, and enjoy having fun with a great group of down to earth people – Richmond Bridge Boat Club really is like no other.

A taster row will give you an opportunity to join one of our club sessions for a couple of hours on a Thursday evening or Sunday morning to see if rowing and our club is something you will really enjoy.

No worries if you’ve never held an oar in your life! We teach you all you need to know.

As a taster rower you will be placed with an experienced crew (and possibly other tasters) and instruction will be given on how to row safely and for your enjoyment.

Taster rows take place March – September – but the club does row all year round.

Please complete the form below and we will get in touch.

By submitting this form you are agreeing to being contacted by RBBC – details of which are outlined in our privacy policy.

FAQs for Taster Rowers

How do I book a taster row?

The club rows all year round but taster rows take place March – September.

Please complete the form on this page first and we will hold your details on our waiting list.

We will then notify you by email when taster rows are due to start. This will explain how to book your first taster session, and what to expect next.

Once your taster row is confirmed, we ask that you arrive at the clubhouse 15 minutes before the rowing time, to help prepare you for your row. The format is informal and friendly, so you will soon be introduced and chatting to others.

About our rowing club

The club started in June 2013, and is run voluntarily by its members – everyone mucks in to do their bit. It is a really special place with no pretences, and is where you can easily make friends and feel involved with something that is growing.

The club is run by the members for the members – we’re a really friendly crowd, and it’s so easy to get involved and enjoy the fun on the river.

When do rowing sessions take place?

There are rowing sessions for club members scheduled nearly every day of the week – typically in the mornings or early evening time.

The following three sessions are open to non-members for a FREE Taster Row (max 2) so you can come and see what it’s all about:

  • Thursdays at 7pm (Social row, normally with a pub stop);
  • Sundays at 11am (Social row, normally with a pub stop)

How do I specify the date I wish to row?

All bookings for rowing are made via our Doodle poll. We will email you step by step instructions to book your taster row once you have completed the form on this page.

What clothing should I wear?

Please wear layers of comfortable, light clothing and sport shoes/trainers.

How do I cancel a booked rowing session?

If you have booked a row and are unable to turn, please send us an e-mail or leave us a message on our facebook site so your crew is not hanging around for you – and your space can be re-allocated..

The Social Side!

Just one of the many things that make our club special is the social side.

There are organised rowing events throughout the year such as the Tudor Pull and Great River Race. Plus we organise our own club outings along the Thames.

We also love to party in our clubhouse! During the summer months there will usually be plenty of occasions to light the BBQ!

Again, it is a case of all our members mucking in to help great social events happen – whether it’s planning food, running the BBQ or helping out behind our makeshift bar. And we always need help setting /clearing up!

A Social Updates email is sent out at least monthly to keep you informed, there is an events calendar on the website, plus we have a Facebook group you can join.

The club has a fully inclusive policy and is passionate about getting more people rowing. We are involved with the Skerries for Schools project teaching school children to row and welcome families to join our club. The club is open to anyone who would like to try rowing.

Training / fitness

The club is adaptable to all levels of fitness. Some members like to row for the social aspect and being outdoors. Other members want to develop their rowing skills and performance. Through training classes and mentoring sessions, we ensure all needs are met.

What's the joining process

If you have enjoyed a taster session and are ready to join please email our membership secretary at membership@richmondbridgeboatclub.org
